Aug 29: Heavy departure traffic at Woodlands Checkpoint, tailback seen from Malaysia

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said in an update at 11.30am on Saturday (Aug 29) that the traffic tailback from Malaysia has subsided. 

Checks by AsiaOne on the Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras at 12.45pm show that traffic along the Causeway appears to be smooth.

However, traffic was observed along Woodlands Crossing and Woodlands Flyover, towards Woodlands Checkpoint. 

Motorists travelling to Malaysia on Saturday (Aug 29) are advised to expect delays at Woodlands Checkpoint due to heavy departure traffic.

In a traffic update posted on its social media at 10am, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said delays are expected and advised travellers to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.

Checks by AsiaOne on the Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras at 10.40am indicate that traffic conditions at Woodlands Crossing and Bukit Timah Expressway — leading to Woodlands Checkpoint — remain smooth.

However, traffic cameras showed a tailback along the Causeway from Johor towards the checkpoint. Traffic heading in the direction of Singapore also appeared heavy.

ICA advised motorists to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.

Meanwhile, Malaysia is entering a three-day Merdeka Day long weekend till Aug 31.

PLUS Malaysia, the country's largest highway operator, said in a statement on Wednesday that traffic is expected to be heavier from Aug 28 to 31, and again from Sept 4 to 7, as travel demand increases over the holiday period.

An estimated 2.2 million vehicles are expected to ply its highways daily during the said periods.
